Create a Painting Board with Leftover Cardboard

Create a painting board with cardboard.

If you’re looking at getting into painting or already dabble in it, it’s a wonderful idea to buy paint paper! You can buy watercolor and/or oil and acrylic papers pads. You don’t have the bulk of canvas and the question of what to do with it after. Plus, when you paint on paper, the selection is often in standard sizes that are easy to find frames for. No matter the quality of the painting, as soon as you put it in a frame with matting, it will have a professional look! I think it’s great to switch out your paintings in a frame and cycle through them too!

It’s good to have something you can tape your paint paper to. Masking tape or painters tape are two great options for holding down the paper so it doesn’t bubble as it would with watercolor paper. But, it will also make a nice white, clean border around your picture. Make sure you tape evenly around the sides. Mounting your paper on the cardboard will allow you the flexibility to move around with the painting and not get paint on other surfaces.

Before you throw away your next shipping box, cut it into a size that works for you. You can reuse it over and over!
